Sonoita AVA

Located in southern Arizona, Sonoita is Arizona's first federally recognized wine region which includes Elgin and Patagonia. Known for its vast grasslands, stunning mountain views, and gorgeous sunsets, the Sonoita region features high elevations over 4,500 - 5,000 ft, and has a greater degree of weather unpredictability in comparison to other Arizona wine regions. The total growing area for this region is roughly 208,000 acres (325 sq mi), which primarily produces Aglianico, Albarino, Counoise, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Malvasia, Marsanne, Merlot, Mission, Mourvedre, Montepulciano, Petite Sirah, Petit Manseng, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Tannat, Tempranillo, Vermentino, Viognier, and Zinfandel.
